CMU employees are constantly undergoing training and attending classes and seminars to keep current with ever increasing certification and license requirements and technological advances. ELECTRIC MAPRATES CMU’s electric department has proudly served residential, commercial, and industrial customers within the city limits of Canton since 1895. The system is operated and maintained by CMU personnel with a goal of providing reliable service at reasonable rates. CMU presently serves approximately 4,657 electric customers with about 80 miles of line.
GAS MAPRATES CMU’s gas department is well trained in installing gas services, repairing leaks, installing main gas lines, and running leakage surveys on the gas system. Canton Municipal Utilities gas department has safely served residential, commercial, and industrial customers of the city of Canton and surrounding areas since 1936. Natural gas is delivered to the utility by four high pressure pipelines, owned by four separate companies, to be distributed to CMU customers at economical rates. CMU gas department serves approximately 5,194 customers. The gas distribution system, consisting of over 100 miles, is connected to four high pressure supply pipelines.
The CMU water department is charged with maintaining and making necessary improvements to the water system and insuring that the water remains pure and meets rigid environmental regulations. Canton Municipal Utilities built its first water standpipe in 1896. The 125,000 gallon structure still provides part of the city’s drinking water serving residential, commercial, and industrial customers. Since that time the system has grown to serve a significant portion of Madison County with its own wells and elevated tanks. The water supply system has a capability of providing over five million gallons per day. CMU serves 8,578 water customers and has over 200 miles of water distribution lines.
WASTEWATER MAPRATES CMU’s wastewater department is responsible for the proper collection of all wastewater through the CMU system. Wastewater is treated to meet environmental standards through a system of lagoons and a state-of-the-art treatment plant at Beatties Bluff. All collection systems are operated and maintained under the guidance of Canton Municipal Utilities. CMU wastewater capacity now exceeds 12 million–gallon- per day with the completion of the 8 million-gallon-per-day oxidation treatment facility at Beatties Bluff. CMU has 60 miles of sewer collection lines and processes an average of 6 million gallons per day.
TECHNICAL SERVICES CMU has engineers and experts to assist and answer questions concerning utility services to home, business or industry.
